Flatpack assembly is much smoother when the delivery has been checked before the appointment. You do not need to unpack every panel, but a few simple checks can identify common problems early.

Count the boxes

Large items are often delivered in several numbered cartons. Compare the labels with the retailer's delivery note or product information. A wardrobe described as four boxes cannot be completed if only three have arrived.

Keep boxes for different products grouped together. This is particularly helpful when several items have similar packaging.

Inspect the packaging

Look for crushed corners, punctures, water damage or deep marks. Photograph any damage before opening the box. If a panel is visibly damaged, the retailer may ask for images of the packaging label and affected part.

Confirm the product and finish

Check that the model, colour, size and door arrangement match the order. It is better to discover an incorrect finish while the packaging is intact than halfway through assembly.

Move everything to the right room

Flatpack panels can be heavy and awkward. If practical, have the unopened boxes placed in or close to the room where the furniture will be assembled. Check stairs, corners and door widths before moving long packages upstairs.

Keep the area ready

  • Clear enough floor and working space
  • Keep instructions, receipts and delivery paperwork
  • Do not mix fittings from different products
  • Check that the finished location is available
  • Tell the assembler about known damage or missing parts

Send useful information with your request

A retailer link or clear photograph of the product label helps identify the size and complexity of the item. For multiple items, list each one separately. This allows the expected time and price to be agreed before the appointment.
